Cristina Garmendia, MPP

Associate Director, Community Engagement and Applied Learning

Cristina is the Associate Director of Community Engagement and Applied Learning in the Race and Opportunity Lab. Cristina will provide overall leadership and coordination of the community engagement, outreach support, and the professional development workshops/trainings strategies of the HomeGrown STL project.

Cristina joins the HomeGrown STL team as the author of the Equity Indicators Baseline Report, which was released in January 2019. In this role, she worked closely with City of St. Louis departments (particularly justice-related) to develop racial equity performance metrics.

She has had diverse professional experience, from helping launch an academic think tank, founding a government technology company, to managing blight remediation programs at a nonprofit community development corporation.

She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis’ Sam Fox School of Design with a BA in Architecture and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government with a Master of Public Policy.
